South Bend First SDA Church, South Bend IN

We have multiple AMD opportunities at South Bend First SDA Church.
We at South Bend First partner with the AU Center of Community Engagement,
an entity known for its impactful community programs.

Our main objective is to impact the community through Christ Method Alone (CMA) initiatives.
We are seeking pastors who are knowledgeable and eager to grow in the
following areas where there is significant potential for personal and professional growth:

  • Digital Evangelism - In collaboration with several churches across the North American Division, we are planning a Digital Evangelism Series from October 19 - to November 2, 2024 (Flyer attached). This is the first, and we intend to have several others. This is an opportunity for seminarians to change lives through digital spaces. We invite you to join our team as we learn from each other and contribute to a growing network of digital evangelists with the potential for personal and professional growth.
  • Soccer Ministry - Our soccer ministry is growing fast. We are reaching families that would have come anywhere near the church through the program. We have kids from different backgrounds who have joined our soccer programs. Some of the kids only speak Spanish. We have been able to connect with this family and initiated Bible studies. In the recently concluded Pathfinder camporee, our soccer kids (ages 10-12) won the Soccer finals game. This is also an opportunity to mentor the children. If you love soccer (football), South Bend First is the place to be. Through Soccer, we are changing lives.
  • Worship Ministry - At South Bend First SDA Church, we value diversity in worship and view it as a communal and personal experience. Our worship services are carefully planned and not restricted by traditional liturgical formats. Instead, we embrace the unique worship styles of our congregation. We seek seminarians who can lead worship, incorporate various cultural influences, and play musical instruments. Under the guidance of Dr. David Williams, an Associate Professor of Worship and Sacred Music and Co-director of the International Center for Worship & Music, your worship experience will be significantly enriched.
  • AV Ministry - We seek seminarians skilled in handling and managing audio-visual equipment. Our state-of-the-art AV equipment will provide students a platform to enhance their experience. Working with a fantastic team, the seminarian will learn how to enrich worship services while working behind the scenes. Omwocha Nyaribo, the Associate Pastor, an IT expert currently a PhD student at the seminary, will be mentoring them. His particular interest is the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Theology. This is an opportunity to learn more beyond the classroom experience.
  • Your Ministry - At South Bend First Church, we support pastors and seminarians in realizing their Ministry initiatives. It's more than just a lab. What are your ministry ideas? No matter how unconventional they seem, South Bend First provides fertile ground for growing your ministry.

Our Senior Pastor, Dr. Throstur Thordarson, holds an MBA and a PhD in leadership and is a highly experienced mentor. His unique approach to ministry brings a breath of fresh air. He will work with you and help shape your ministry.

If you are ready to make a long-term commitment (at least one year) and want to be part of our pastoral team, please email us at pastor@sbadventist.org.

In case you are new to what Advanced Ministerial Development (AMD) is: This is a course organized and supervised by the NAD Evangelism Institute at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary. The NAD Evangelism Institute is a Division institution assisting the Seminary in the fulfillment of its practical theological education objectives. As such, this course reflects the Institute’s mission statement: Shaping mission focused leaders to reach North America with the Christ-centered, Seventh-day Adventist message of hope and wholeness.

AMD is built around the coaching relationship between a ministry context coach and an individual seminarian in area churches or community ministry settings. It fosters the formation of ministry practitioners who are intentional about theological reflection to create insightful religious practice. Two credits are required for the MDiv program.
